Workshop I: DDI related issues (Chair: Jostein Ryssevik, NSD)

Participants are recommended to give a short presentation (10-15 min) with a written summary/paper on their archives' current practices and questions related with DDI data documentation. Presentations may cover issues listed below or some other topics. A link to FSD's presentation is just an example of a paper focusing on DDI/DTD. Other types of presentations are warmly welcome. After the two workshop sessions the seminar will continue with discussions on developing DDI in general and possibilities to harmonise data documentation within this framework.

• current conversion plans or practices and problems in converting other data documentation formats to DDI
• examples, questions and suggestions concerning the choosing of DDI elements for data documentation
• examples of the problems and questions concerning the filling in the chosen elements
• ideas for further development of DDI
• possibilities and concrete actions for the harmonisation of documentation standards within the framework of DDI (controlled vocabularies, abbreviations etc.)
• compatibility between DDI elements and search tools
