Teacher's Checklist for Using Aila

What teachers can do

Download datasets with access categories A and B for teaching purposes.
Encourage students to register with Aila and download datasets themselves when working with a complete dataset.
Share excerpts from a dataset with students for analysis exercises when only a small portion of the dataset is used in teaching and assignments.
Instruct students on the terms and conditions of dataset use. According to these terms, datasets must be properly cited in seminar papers and theses. See the guide: Citing data. In addition, it is advisable to remind students to delete dataset files when they are no longer needed.

Datasets with A- ja B access conditions: exercises, seminar papers, bachelor's theses, and master's-level theses.
Datasets with C access conditions: only master's-level theses (Master’s thesis, pro gradu thesis, or university of applied sciences Master’s thesis).
Datasets with D access conditions: access may be granted on a case-by-case basis with permission.

In collaborative theses and group assignments, each student must personally download the required datasets from Aila.
Submit a new application when the purpose of use changes significantly, for example, when using a dataset in a new course or when starting a research project with a dataset previously downloaded for teaching. Previously downloaded datasets do not need to be deleted if you continue using the same dataset under a new permission.
A new application is not required if the same dataset continues to be used for the same thesis, even if the research question changes.
